The RCMP has launched an investigation into a suspected clandestine drug lab in rural British Columbia.
Officers targeted the property on Reservoir Rd. in Spallumcheen, 41km south of Salmon Arm, earlier this week.
According to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, the investigation kicked off after officers "observed materials that suggested to them the possible presence of a drug lab." A search warrant was obtained, and further searching revealed "evidence consistent with the production of drugs."
"It's expected there will be a continued police presence at the property for several more days," Cnst. Chris Terleski explained. "At this time, there is no immediate risk to the safety of the public. The RCMP Federal Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team is deployed and is assisting in assessing and safely processing the scene."
The suspected lab is located not far from Falkland, BC, where just last year the RCMP busted the largest drug "superlab" in Canadian history.
In that case, authorities recovered half a tonne of hard drugs, 89 firearms, and $500,000 in cash. Also seized were enough fentanyl and precursor chemicals to kill every Canadian nearly three times times over.
Among the drugs discovered were 35 kg of cocaine, 54 kg of fentanyl, 390 kg of methamphetamine, 15 kg of MDMA, and 6 kg of cannabis. The firearms included dozens of handguns, AR-15 assault rifles, and sub-machine guns, some of which were "loaded and ready to use."
