A few Canadian prime ministers were intensely disliked, even loathed by the time they left office.
That would include Sir John A. Macdonald and Pierre Trudeau. And, for a time, Stephen Harper — although those ‘MISS ME YET’ memes sure started to pop up fast when Canadians realized the good old days were rapidly slipping away.
Trudeau Jr. had come along to say: “Hold my Shirley Temple.” (Or do immature dancing Swifties drink beer? Maybe Bud Light.)
And now here he is. Widely, rightfully distrusted and despised. A December 17 Abacus Data poll found Justin Trudeau’s net favourability dropped to -43 with just 19% wanting him to stay on as prime minister.
Some Liberal cabinet ministers who betrayed us by faithfully backing Trudeau’s relentless assault on Canada and Canadian values, fearing only for their political futures, now huff and puff demanding he resign.
Resign? Not good enough. After what Trudeau did to this country he deserves to be taken out on a stretcher. Them too, right behind him.
The Conservative Opposition demanded he make an immediate exit.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, a former Khalistani extremist, a federal party leader who attacked “older white men”, initially feebly called for Trudeau to resign.
That crafty chameleon’s finger is always to the wind testing what benefits, not Canada, only him politically and personally. Yeah, yeah, Friday Singh announced his party’s intention to introduce a non-confidence motion. Believe it when you see it. The wind could change direction.
That old saying ‘A lady knows when to leave’ apparently doesn’t apply to faux self-declared he-feminists like Trudeau. Some insiders say he plans to hang in, others say he’s toying with the idea of resigning.
But why would he resign?
Canadian voters shot themselves in the foot three times electing him to lead a majority Liberal government in 2015, then two minority governments in 2019 and 2021. That’s despite the flashing signs and sirens all along the way showing he was leading Canada down a path to economic ruin, oppression, and into its current state of misery.
When Trudeau defeated Harper in 2015, the latter and only statesman of the two respectfully said, “The people are never wrong.”
Except for 2015, 2019, 2021 — and yes, even the possibility of 2025 if Trudeau manages to hang on. That’s a terrifying prospect. Canada cannot withstand any more of what it he has done to this country.
As Western Standard Opinion Editor Nigel Hannaford points out in his powerful yearend message: “Since before the Second World War, this has undoubtedly been for Canada the worst of times. Only the Great Depression comes close.”
That’s not the only reason Canadians, including me, file Trudeau under loathed. It’s not personal. Never met him. Never, ever want to. Poking pins in my eyes would be more enjoyable. Still trying to recover from meeting his father many years ago.
It's Justin Trudeau’s self-serving, twisted ideologies and actions, how he has treated Canada and Canadians, that deserve loathing and contempt.
That’s warranted based on Freedom Convoy leader Tamara Lich’s testimony alone before the European Parliament. This great Canadian champion of rights and freedoms revealed how she was put in a “dungeon” of solitary confinement after being arrested in February 2022.
But, according to the Abacus Data poll, 19% of Canadians don’t care about how the vindictive little Trudeau hunted, hurt, and destroyed good Canadians — in countless ways — and figure he deserves another shot.
They don’t care that he has done nothing as the ungrateful thugs in our midst burn the Canadian flag. Why would he? He has wantonly stomped on it for nine years.
If Trudeau manages to hang in and lead the Liberals into the next election, he’s got time to dupe more into voting for him, despite all the indisputable evidence before them, that he’s a destructive, menacing force.
The evidence has been ignored time and again.
The first warning should have been his last name.
Like father like son. Malicious, destructive, divisive, spending-happy, commie-admiring (the Soviet Union, China, Cuba) Trudeau senior (1968-1979) was an utter disaster for Canada, not just the West. The lingering effect of his economic policies were responsible for two recessions — 1981-82 and 1992-93.
After the 1981 communist coup against Poland’s Solidarity movement, he declared that if martial law was a way to avoid civil war and Soviet intervention, “I can’t say it’s all bad.”
Yup, like father like son. Trudeau Jr. zealously imposed the War Measures [Emergencies Act] on peacefully protesting Canadians.
It’s not like Canadians didn’t ignore other ominous red flags.
In 2015, Trudeau dismissed Canada as the “first post-national state” void of a “core identity” and declared himself “reasonably fit for this office.”
In 2017, Canada’s 150th anniversary, he declared that the Canadian-born were here by “default” lesser than immigrants. He stubbornly ushered them in, despite millions being unvetted, despite the refusal of many who reject Canadian ways, despite the nation’s inability to handle the strain on healthcare, education, and housing.
Trudeau’s disdain for Old Stock white Canadians borders on manic.
Maybe Trudeau’s hanging in because this greatest divider in Canada’s history, next to his father, thinks he has an ace up his sleeve. Maybe he figures he can unite Canadians to stand with him against president-elect Donald Trump’s threat of 25% tariffs on all goods.
Trump wouldn’t have had to do that if Trudeau hadn’t neglected to secure the porous, terrorist/fentanyl northern border.
But Trudeau probably can’t wrap his head around the concept of fighting for Canadians, like Trump is fighting for Americans.
Never mind COVID-19. Trudeau’s a pandemic that Canada will take a long time to heal from. He’s a lost cause. A huge mistake. A disgrace.
But do those Canadians who ignored the red flags and gave him the green light — voting him in three times — know the fourth term would be deadly?
He can’t be trusted. Can they? Many share his twisted, radical ideologies that trample freedom, religion, and family.
Selfish, superficial, ill-informed La La Land dwellers rush to vote. And selfish, informed too often don’t bother.
Maybe the jolt Trudeau fans have needed comes down to something as simple as the price of a litre of milk and a litre of gas.
Then again, maybe you really can’t fix stupid. That’s a dangerous thing.
Until Trudeau is actually gone, the threat of him not going away lingers. Unbelievable, considering what he has done to this country.
